BSc (Hons) Animal Health and Welfare
Level 5 Equine Nutrition
Hello! I’m Georgia!
If you’ve had the time to browse through my website, I’m sure that you already know that I’m a fully qualified and insured Independent Equine Nutritionist. Using my 21 years’ of equestrian experience and extensive academic background, my aims by working as an equine nutritionist are to educate horse owners in a friendly, yet professional, way, as well as aiding in supporting your horse’s performance, health, behaviour, and welfare by promoting the feeding of a balanced, nourishing diet.
My love of horses began at age four whilst living in Belgium, where I was lucky enough to meet my first Shetland pony, Scruffy. Over time, I managed to persuade my Mum that Scruffy needed a field friend or two (which wasn’t difficult, AT ALL!), which ultimately lead to my developing a love of Dressage as well. As this passion grew, I realised that I wanted to work within the equestrian industry when I grew up, with the aim of giving back to all of the animals that I hold so dear.
Upon moving to the U.K. with my Mum at age 13, I set out to make my animal-related dreams a reality, and was given an unconditional offer to read for a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Health and Welfare at Harper Adams University. Here, I was lucky enough to study a variety of Equine Science modules, which extensively tested my knowledge of equine nutrition, both in an applied and clinical setting, which I absolutely loved! I graduated in 2020 with a 2:1, and decided that I wanted to study even more about equine nutrition, even if it meant writing up even more assignments and taking more exams!
In November 2020, I registered to complete a Level 5 diploma in Equine Nutrition through The Open College of Equine Studies. This two-year course tested not only my will-power, but also my understanding of many different aspects of equine nutrition, including land management and metabolic disease management, whilst allowing me to further expand my knowledge of the importance of food in supporting equine health, behaviour, and welfare. I graduated with a grade Distinction in November 2022 after submitting 11 assignments and completing a 100-question exam paper, had an incredibly long nap, and then set out to establish myself as an Independent Equine Nutritionist in February 2023!
Now, I am working part-time as an Independent Equine Nutritionist, alongside working at a local veterinary centre to allow me to invest further into my business by buying an equine weighbridge. When I’m not working, I love spending time with my own little precious Friesian gelding, Joldert, which mainly consists of us going for in-hand walks together, and me catering to his every need (obviously!).
